What is LAUNCH X431 ECU Flash Function and How to Enable It
LAUNCH X431 has officially released the ECU Flash function for select commercial vehicle diagnostic tools. This guide walks you through what ECU Flash (truck) is, how to purchase and activate it on compatible X431 devices, and which vehicles and systems are supported.
PART1: What Is the ECU Flash Function?
The ECU Flash function enables technicians to perform ECU read/write operations, online programming, and version upgrades across various commercial vehicle systems. This function is crucial for:
- Resolving software issues;
- Upgrading ECUs to newer versions;
- Reprogramming after component replacement;
- Flashing cross-version engines without dismantling.
Supported LAUNCH X431 Devices
The ECU Flash feature is available on the following LAUNCH truck diagnostic tools:
X431 PAD V ELITE HD / X431 PAD VII ELITE HD(already includes ECU Flash)
X431 PRO3 SE HD
Other PRO3 series HD tablets
Note:
Devices other than the PAD V LINK HD must purchase the ECU Flash software via:
Mall > Software Store > Commercial Vehicle
All PRO3 HD tablets now run the X-431 HD APP, same as the PRO3 SE HD.
PART2: How to Enable ECU Flash Function on X431 Devices
If you don’t see the Online Programming, ECU Flash software, or Flash Data Management on your X431 device, follow these steps to modify the configuration file.
Configuration File Paths:
For X-431 PAD V LINK HD:
/storage/emulated/0/cnlaunch/X431PADV/assets/StdCfg.ini
For X-431 PRO3 SE HD / PRO3 LINK HD / V+ SmartLink HD / PRO3S+ SmartLink HD:
/storage/emulated/0/cnlaunch/X431Pro3S/assets/StdCfg.ini
If the path cannot be found by entering it directly, you can manually select the directory:
PAD V HD:
Other Modules > Files > Internal Storage > cnlaunch > [Device Folder] > assets > StdCfg.ini
PRO3 HD series:
Other Modules > Files > Internal Storage > emulated/0/cnlaunch > [Device Folder] > assets > StdCfg.ini
Modify the Following Parameters
Open the [StdCfg.ini] file and locate the following lines:
OnlineFlash=0 Flash=0
Change them to:
OnlineFlash=1 Flash=1
If the parameters are missing, add the following at the end of the file:
OnlineFlash=1 Flash=1

Overseas versions of the software are pre-set to OnlineFlash=0, Flash=0
